How does it work?
Beat React is an After Effects Preset exclusive to Videobolt. It measures the beat loudness of a track, ranging from 0 to 100, enabling easy synchronization of any property, like layer scale, with the audio's rhythm. This feature is designed specifically for Videobolt and is not functional outside of it. When a song is imported through the Author Tools Music Library, Videobolt not only imports the track but also includes a data layer with comprehensive beat information. To simplify this complex data, we offer the Author Tool 'Apply Beat React'. This tool attaches a preset to your chosen layer, reflecting the beat's current value. The preset boasts various controls, including easings and beat types, offering a wide range of creative possibilities.
Import song & beat info
You should first import a song through the Author Tools Music Library. To do this open Author Tools and click on the Music Library tab. If you don't see the tab enlarge the panel so it can show up. Browse for the song you like, click arrow down button then Import audio info. Choose Add New React when asked and click Import song.

Create beat frequency controls
Beats exist across various frequencies, varying with each song. To accommodate this, we've introduced the Beat Frequency Settings layer in Videobolt. This feature, equipped with user-adjustable controls in the Editor, allows you to select the specific frequency to which the beat should react. Setting this up is straightforward, thanks to our Author Tools.
    Here's how to do it:
  • In your project's settings composition, create a disabled adjustment layer named Beat frequency range.
  • Next, navigate to the Viz & Lyrics tab in the Author Tools.
  • Run Add React Animator Controls.
  • This action adds a Dropdown control to your adjustment layer, offering a selection of popular frequencies for precise beat synchronization.

    Apply React Animator
Animating properties to the beat is effortless with Videobolt's Author Tools.
Here's a streamlined process using the Apply Beat React tool:
  • First, select the layer containing the properties you wish to animate.
  • Go to the Viz & Lyrics tab in the Author Tools.
  • Run Apply React Animator.
  • This action applies a preset that generates the current beat value, corresponding to the frequency chosen in the Beat frequency range dropdown. To animate your properties in sync with the beat, simply link them (using pick whip) to the Output value at the end of the preset, indicated in red. This connection ensures your properties move in harmony with the beat's rhythm.

    Beat Modes
    Various options to choose from
Beat React in Videobolt comes with three dynamic modes: Pulse, Steps, and Trigger, each offering unique animation styles. Selecting your preferred mode is a breeze. Simply adjust the mode property on the VB React Animator. For convenient customization, each mode has its dedicated section within the VB React Animator, named correspondingly. Let's delve into what each mode offers in the following explanations.
    Pulse
The Pulse mode in Beat React offers two distinct options: Cycle and Ping Pong, each with unique animation characteristics.
      Properties:
  • Start value: This is the point where the beat-driven animation begins.
  • End value: The animation grows or expands towards this value as the beat progresses, reaching it at the beat's end.
  • Cycle: Selecting this option animates a property, such as a circle's radius, from a Start value (e.g., 100) to an End value (e.g., 250). Once the beat ends, it abruptly returns to the Start value, creating a direct transition from End to Start.
  • Ping Pong: Instead of an abrupt return, this option smoothly animates the property back to the Start value, creating a seamless back-and-forth motion.
  • Normalize: feature ensures consistent sizing in animations, recommended to be left enabled for uniformity.

    Steps
Steps mode in Beat React is a variation of Pulse Mode, characterized by its step-based animation.
      Properties:
  • Additive: This unique checkbox transforms the animation from a fixed-step process to a cumulative one, where the output value continually increases.
  • Number of steps: This property lets you specify the desired number of steps in your animation.
  • Pulse type: Similar to Pulse, it offers Cycle and Ping Pong options, influencing how the animation transitions between steps.
  • Value at beginning: Set a starting value for the first step of your animation.
  • Step size: This determines the magnitude of each step with each beat.
  • For instance, to animate a clock that rotates 30 degrees with each beat indefinitely, activate the Additive checkbox, set the starting value to 0, and the step size to 30. This setup ensures continuous, beat-synced rotation.

    Trigger
Trigger mode in Beat React is straightforward, featuring just two properties: initial value and speed.
      Properties:
  • Initial value: Sets the starting point of your animation.
  • Speed: Determines the constant pace at which the value animates.
  • In this mode, the chosen value grows steadily at the set speed. When a new beat occurs, the animation resets to the initial value.
